and for sonic, i wouldnt care cuz i hate him...

I wopuld go with the X series, preferably with his X4 weaponset, or Trigger, from the Legends series.

I would rather the game be without 3rd party characters, but I would be a lot happier with Megaman in than Sonic. I've never played Megaman before, but he's more awesome than Sonic.
